My Career Then And Now

Year 2000-2001

Well my career all started, as it does with most racers, with arrive and drive corperate karts at a local 250m kart track called Brentwood Park Karting. I had searched throughly through the yellow pages for hours until i came across a track that was within a 15minute drive and was holding a "Karting fun day" on the following weekend. This fun day consisted of a whole day of racing the coperate junior karts!

After this karting fun day i was hooked! My mum kindly let me join the karting cadet club that raced every sunday morning 9-12. Istayed at this club for 2years until i finally got bored of false promises of a bigger better track and a kart team!

Year 2002-2003

I close friend of mine Ryan Presely that raced with me in corperate karts made a move to the F6 South East championships in his brand new Junior standard kart. (A class F6 no longer run as numbers plummited) I talked with my mum about this and we decided together to get a Junior standard engine and second hand chassis off of a mechanic at my old 250m circuit. He then offered to be my mechanic for the racing season, this offer was greatly appreciated as neither me or my mum or my dad new anything about kart setup.

The first season in Junior standard started off well, in the first two races i gained two novice trophies. Then things took a turn for the worse! The mechanic we had wasn't up to scratch and didn't really know what he was doing therefore the set up was awful, and as neither me or my mum knew anything about karts we were gullible.

Year 2004-2005

I moved into the faster Junior Royale category which had grids of up to 20! I had now moved onto a new mechanic that we met through a friend in F6 his son seemed to be doing extremly well in Junior TKM 4stroke so we thought we would give him a try. However we once again made a mistake! Truthfully he ownly really knew how to set up TKM's effectively and told us he had never touched a briggs and stratton Junior Royale engine before! So as the 2004 season drew to a close and no promising results had been achieved, we then stumbled across Trevor Taylor aka Mr Karting Guru. He knew EVERYTHING about Junior Royale he had infact given birth to Royale and so therefore was a perfect person to choose as a mechanic. From the second we started with Trevor we could see a difference, he explained everything to us clearly about what was wrong with the kart set up and layed out precisely what he was going to do to improve it! The results came thick and fast in the last 3 rounds of the 2004 championship and on the last round i took 3rd place out of a grid of 12!

The 2005 season started off with mild apprehension as Team Taylor wasn't sure what the competition would be like for the new season. To cut a long story short i came either 1st or 2nd in every one of the 12 rounds of the F6 championship! However the very last round where all the points counted EVERYTHING went wrong, power loss, wrong sprockets, cracked exhaust manifold you name it it happened! All these problems resulted in me losing the F6 championship by just 3 points!

Next year i'll be racing in Senior TKM 4stroke in F6 champs and hopefully S1. Thanks once again Trevor for helping me believe in myself and win!
